2023.09.18 Volleyball: Heritage @ Dominion
Sterling, VA (September 18, 2023) - LCPS volleyball teams have been in action for a few weeks, but the real competition is only just beginning. District play began tonight with the Heritage Pride visiting the Dominion Titans. The Pride was on a hot five-game winning streak, but their overall record (5-3) had them just behind the Titans (5-2). But, from this point on, these are the games that matter.

Set 1: Heritage 25 - Dominion 21
Dominion's 2022 season ended one game short of the Class 4 championship match, and they are going to be the team to beat in the Dulles District until someone beats them. And in tonight's first set, Heritage looked like just the team to do it. Playing with consistency and efficiency, the Pride roared out to a 10-5 lead behind solid hits from Calla Petz. The Titans narrowed the margin to 16-15, but a Heritage timeout paid off and led to the set win. Remarkably, the Titans never had the lead.
Set 2: Dominion 25 - Heritage 16
The second set was a mirror image of the first with the Titans now the aggressor and the Pride struggling to keep up. Behind Abby Vasak, Dominion opened up their power game and finished the set with authority.
Set 3: Dominion 25 - Heritage 16
The Titans picked up right where they left off and continued to dominate the match. Heritage called time out trailing 10-5, but could not derail Dominion's surging offense. As the set ended, a match win for the Titans seemed all but assured.
Set 4: Heritage 25 - Dominion 18
With their backs against the wall, Heritage rallied big time. Behind a great serving run from Emily Ehrmantraut, the Pride stole all of the momentum of the match. The Heritage attack stepped up, but their defense was the difference. Naomi Amazigo simply owned the net, almost completely shutting down Dominion's Vasak and Megan Hiltner.
Set 5: Dominion 15 - Heritage 10
Displaying the experience of a true champion, the Titans regrouped and took charge of the final set. The best rally of the night occurred with Dominion ahead 10-7. A point for Heritage might have changed the outcome of the match, but the Titans finished it and went on to close out the night.
