2023.01.27 Girls Basketball: Briar Woods @ Potomac Falls
Potomac Falls, VA (January 27, 2023) - When Potomac Falls' Cecelia O'Grady completed an "old-fashioned" three-point play at the 2:30 mark of the first period, her Panthers had a surprising, but well-earned 9-3 lead over the visiting Briar Woods Falcons. The Falcons' were tied with Woodgrove at the top of the Potomac District standings, and the Panthers were well back, but they still had to play the game.

By the end of the quarter, led by Hope Drake's outside shooting, the Falcons had taken the lead, 12-11. And from that point on, the margin would only grow. As the second period opened, Giuliana Bohmer hit two quick buckets that led the way to a twelve-point halftime lead, 31-19.
After the break it was Briar Woods' defense that stole the show. A blistering, pestering, full-court press forced the Panthers into rushed shots and erratic passes. The Falcons simply had too many weapons as they freely substituted without any loss in productivity. Drake was again the scoring leader who paced Briar to an explosive 48-24 lead at the end of the third period.
With the game well in hand, Briar Woods sent in every player on the bench, and would not score again. Meanwhile, the young Potomac Falls side--with no seniors--had their strongest quarter, cutting the lead in half and planting the seeds for future seasons.
Final Score: Briar Woods 48 - Potomac Falls 36
