2023.01.03 Girls Basketball: Loudoun County @ Tuscarora
Leesburg, VA (January 3, 2023) - It's still too early to tell just how good the teams are in the Dulles District. They all have built short resumes by playing non-district opponents, but the real season has only just begun. At 6-1 overall, the Tuscarora Huskies' group is looking strong while the Loudoun County Captains, tonight's visiting opponent, are yet to get a winning run going, at 1-5.

At least for this game, those early season records held true to form. The Huskies were simply too tall, too big inside, too quick outside, and overall stronger than the Captains. By the end of the first quarter, Tuscarora's relentless defense had held County to a single basket and the Huskies led by a wide margin, 17-3.
The second quarter was better for the Captains. A youth-oriented team, led by senior Emma Fadeley and junior Allison Mallow, County was more aggressive at both ends of the court and created better scoring opportunities. But the Tuscarora offense, orchestrated by senior leader Grace Middleton and executed by an experienced contingent including eight upperclassmen, continued to expand the margin and led at halftime, 28-8.
The second half was the Huskies' chance to demonstrated their bench depth as they put everyone into the action with very little change in productivity. The Captains continued to compete, but could not disrupt Tuscarora's organized offense and stifling defense.
Final Score: Tuscarora 52 - Loudoun County 17
