2022.05.23 Girls Lacrosse: Region 4C Quarterfinal, Lightridge @ Tuscarora

Leesburg, VA (May 23, 2022) - The first time they met, the Lightridge Lightning had one of their biggest wins of the season. It was early in the season, but on March 31,  they traveled to Leesburg to play the Tuscarora Huskies, and won 16-15. The next time, back in Aldie, Tuscarora returned the favor and won, 12-9. Now, here in the Region 4C tournament, was the rubber match.

Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.

The game was a series of scoring surges: two by Tuscarora and one by Lightridge.

After sixteen minutes of even play, the first surge included three straight Tuscarora goals for a 6-3 Huskies lead. Since most of the half had been too close to call, this sudden burst caught the Lightning off guard. A late Lightridge goal narrowed the margin to 6-4 at halftime.

The Lightning had their surge to start the second half. Two quick goals--in the first two minutes of the period--tied the score at 6-6 and gave the Lightning new life. The Huskies grabbed the lead back twice, but Lightridge tied the score each time. At 8-8, again it looked like the final result was too close to call.

But with twelve minutes remaining Tuscarora had their second surge. Scoring five of the next six goals, the Huskies pulled away with a consistent show of offensive prowess and advanced to the semifinals.

Final Score: Tuscarora 13 - Lightridge 9
