2022.01.31 Boys Basketball: Independence @ Riverside

Lansdowne, VA (January 31, 2022) - Recent results for the Riverside Rams had been less than the senior-heavy lineup expected of themselves. An encouraging win over Lightridge was bracketed by three Potomac District losses, which had them near the bottom of the standings. The visiting Independence Tigers were solidly in the middle of the standings and represented a good chance for the home team to get on a better roll.

Behind some sharp-shooting from Cam Kosckinski, the Rams came out fast and scored the first seven points of the game. But Wes Williams had the Tigers scrambling back to tie the score as the first quarter ended, 14-14.

The game remained close in the second quarter, but Riverside had the lead at halftime, 25-22, and some momentum going into the locker room.

And that's when the Rams' defense took over. Their relentless effort contested every Tiger shot or pass, and suddenly Riverside had a ten-point lead. Early in the final period, that lead expanded to fourteen, 49-35, and the Rams never looked back again.

Both teams now head into the final rigorous District matchups where every win matters for playoff seedings.

Final Score: Riverside 63 - Independence 49
