2021.11.13 Cross Country: VHSL 4/5/6 State Championships
The Plains, VA (November 13, 2021) - Once again, Great Meadow Park offered up a brilliant backdrop for the VHSL Classes 4, 5, and 6 state championship cross country races--six events over nearly six hours on spectacular rolling countryside.
The early races (Class 6) began under threatening skies and some light rain, but that turned out to be the most ideal conditions of the day. When the sun started to shine consistently the wind started to blow hard, which added complexity to race strategy.
Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) were well represented with Loudoun Valley taking the top individual prizes in both of the Class 4 races (Ava Gordon and Graham Mussman). The Vikings girls won the team prize as well, while the boys came in third in a tightly packed field. And in their first trip to states, Lightridge was rewarded with a top-fifteen finish for Taylor Gibson in the Class 4 girls race.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the races.
