2021.10.21 Field Hockey: Potomac District Semifinal

Lansdowne, VA (October 21, 2021) - A district semifinal game between the second and third tournament seeds is expected to be a close-fought battle for the chance to play for the tournament championship. But the Stone Bridge Bulldogs--with a modest 5-5 record in the district--knew they had their work cut out for them. After all, the Riverside Rams had been right at the top of the standings and their only two losses were to the undefeated and top-seeded Independence Tigers. Yes, anything can happen, but Stone Bridge would need to get started fast and stay that way.

Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.

Unfortunately, Riverside had other plans. Three minutes into the match, freshman Amanda Martin scored the first goal of many for the Rams and the rout was on. Before the period ended, junior Ria Chhina ripped off two more goals and Riverside was cruising.

Riverside continued to pour it on in the second quarter. The Bulldogs only made it into the Riverside end once in the first half and did not record a penalty corner until well into the third period. By halftime, Riverside has scored twice more including another by the ever aggressive Chhina.

Two more Riverside goals in the 3rd quarter ended the game early as per league rules. With a 7-goal margin at the end of three, the score was declared final.

The Rams will next play Independence for the district championship. If they play with the intensity of this game, it's going to be a thriller.

Final Score: Riverside 7 - Stone Bridge 0
