Sterling, VA (June 22, 2021) - The Dominion Titans boys lacrosse team had mostly cruised through a 12-0 undefeated season. They had been tested in mid-season games against Broad Run and Loudoun County, but their last seven games had been resounding wins including a crushing rematch victory over Loudoun County in the Region 4C championship.

The Fauquier Falcons lost their first game of the season against Battlefield, a Class 6 school, but closed out the season with ten straight wins capped off by a huge one over George Mason in the  Region 4B title game.

Two great records, but little else to directly compare the two teams--since they had no common opponents--as they headed to this Class 4 semifinal match.

The first few moments of the game were predictable with the teams feeling each other out. Dominion scored first in the 6th minute, but Fauquier answered right back to tie the score at 1-1. The Titans scored again a few minutes later, but that was followed by the biggest moment of the match for the Falcons.

Given a two-minute penalty, The Titans had to go on defense a man down and Fauquier took full advantage, scoring three goals in that span to take a somewhat surprising 4-2 lead. Dominion retaliated just before the quarter ended to make it 4-3 at the break, but it was a rare sight indeed to see the Titans trailing at the end of a quarter of play.

The Titans were fired up to start the second quarter and finished three times to take a two-goal lead of their own. For a moment, it looked like they were on one of their patented runs, but Fauquier scored two of the next three to trim the deficit, and at halftime were trailing by just one goal, 7-6.

The Dominion defense, and goalie Justin Mann, won the game in the third quarter. After the Falcons scored quickly to tie the game at 7-7, the Titan net was untouched for the remainder of the period. At the other end, the Fauquier defense gave up three goals to give the Dominion a 10-7 lead, and command of the game.

The teams traded three goals apiece in the third period, but the Falcons were never able to get closer than a two-score margin. Fauquier ends a brilliant season with a great effort against a championship caliber team, while Dominion continues their undefeated season and heads to the state championship game.

Final Score: Dominion 13 - Fauquier 10
